WOW!
What a FABULOUS turnout we had, with great thanks to our regular
VoteRescuers and the Ron Paul Meetup Group led by Paul Davis, who sent a
message out to his group also and helped bring in another 5 to 6 people!
SO: Thank you, *Hector Del Toro; Larry Nelson; Paul Davis; Jim Stutsman;
Gordon Walton* (who patiently waited but had to leave before he was called
on to speak ~ SORRY!!!) ;* Katy Brewer; Lee LeTeff; Linda Greene; Nancy
Robbins; Mary Krenek; Melissa Gonzales; Karen Kreps; and Kathy Cox!*
In all I believe we had 14 speakers who each had approximately 3
minutes. Karen & I provided to our members marked passages from the
University of California study on Hart InterCivic software and the Ohio
"Project Everest" study on Hart, both of which resulted in the
decertification of Hart in those states. (We have heard that California
recertified Hart, but have not confirmed it) But in combination with the
impassioned personal statements made by many of you, (*Paul, Katy, Linda,
Larry, Mary, Lee, Melissa, and others*) I think we made a POWERFUL group of
presenters today. No doubt this Commissioners' Court knows that there are
serious issues with these machines, and that citizens are upset!
Our points appeared to be received with interest, but there was a roomful of
people there on another issue and it appeared that the County Judge, Sam
Biscoe, wanted us to "get to the point" of what we were asking for. *Melissa
Gonzales* delivered that information quite well: "Close your pursestrings
to any further purchase of these voting machines".. Our goal of returning
to hand-counted paper ballot elections was a theme that was brought up by
Karen, Melissa, Katy, and others. *WELL DONE, everyone!*
The Judge suggested that a Committee be formed including some of us (details
as we get them) to study the Hart situation. We are following up with him
immediately to ascertain how & when this may happen and get it going ASAP,
as we have no time to lose if we are going to convert Travis County to a
hand-counted county before November!!!!
More to come as we get the next wave of info from the Commissioners. BTW,
VoteRescue was written up in one of our favorite blogs, "Bradblog", for the
work done last week at Commissioner's Court! I'll forward that shortly.
MANY THANKS ONCE AGAIN! We are making real progress... with YOUR help!
Vickie (and Karen!)
