/This message is to inform you about the growing threats to the survival
of Public Access Community TV (PACT) here in Austin, as well as, to
other access channels across the country. Over the past few years PACT
has provided VoteRescue with an effective means of getting our message
out to our fellow citizens, so we can't just sit by and not help in some
way. Please consider attending the Public Hearing TONIGHT (Wed.) at City
Hall at 7:30 pm to show and tell about your support. Details about the
hearing are in red below. And don't forget to tune in to KOOP Radio
TODAY (Wed.) from noon to 1 pm to learn more about these threats.
Thanks. ~Karen

ChannelAustin (Public Access Community Television) is experiencing
unprecedented threats to its future. These threats have already
negatively affected other Access TV channels across TX and may soon
affect our Austin community.

ChannelAustin (Public Access Community Television),
http://www.pactaustin.org/ <http://www.pactaustin.org/>, is a non-profit
organization that manages Access TV channels 10, 11, and 16
on Time-Warner and Grande Communications. Austin's Access TV recently
celebrated its 34th anniversary. PACT is dedicated to building
community through media by providing the technical avenues of self
expression and promoting the principles of democracy.

Moderator, David Kobierowski, and special guest, Stefan Wray, Dir
Communications ChannelAustin, will explain the role that Access TV plays
in our community followed by the overall success of Access TV
(originated over 34 years ago!). We'll discuss in detail the threats to
Access TV; including a recent 5th Circuit Court of Appeals decision
opening the door for a Texas cable industry lawsuit that could eliminate
all remaining municipal franchise agreements, Time Warner Cable of
Austin not paying nearly $1M dollars in capital equipment funds owed
to the City of Austin for new equipment purchases, legislative threats
from Senate Bill 5, recent threats from new FCC regulations, and
numerous other threats to Independent Community Media.
