Hi VoteRescuers! Next Wednesday, June 25th is the Big Day: for the House
Committee on Elections hearing on electronic voting. We are planning
several events around this Hearing and YOUR VOLUNTEER HELP IS NEEDED.
First of all, here's some detail about what we're up to: VoteRescue
has been invited to bring in expert witnesses to give testimony that
day. We are excited to announce that some of the experts we will bebringing
in include:

Bruce Funk, Emery County Utah election official who invited in the Black
Box Voting “hacking team” to examine his Diebold touchscreen machines
with printers added. They found “the worst security holes ever” in
electronic voting systems

Jim March – technology expert, Black Box Voting Board member, plaintiff
with Bev Harris in the 2004 California lawsuit against Diebold for
running uncertified software in their machines. Diebold lost.

Noel Runyan: Expert on evaluation of electronic voting systems for the
disabled. Wrote the report for the Un. Of California stating that NONE of
the e-voting systems currently in use fulfill the HAVA mandate for the
disabled.

There will be other witnesses friendly to our side of the issue who will
also be there giving statements. Karen, Abbe DeLozier and I will all be
speaking that day as well.

Volunteer help will be needed to help us put on three events we are
hosting around this Hearing

*A breakfast at the Capitol at 7:30 Wednesday the 25th, before the
Hearing, for County Clerks from around the state to give them the
opportunity to meet with our experts;

* A reception at the Capitol Wednesday when the Hearing is over for
County Clerks from around the state who missed the breakfast, for another
opportunity to meet our experts.

* A smaller breakfast the morning after the Hearing, venue TBD but will
be downtown, for a smaller group of Travis County and state election
officials, to give them an opportunity to meet our experts.

Nancy Robbins has bravely agreed to help us produce all of these events;
I have copied her on this e-mail and she is the person to contact if you
can volunteer. (Her e-mail is: ncr1974 at gmail.com; her phone number is
694-9286) The following is from Nancy regarding types of help needed and
when:

I would like to break this down into a few categories.

1. Tuesday afternoon and evening rides to the airport and
restaurant. (pickup and delivery of guests)
2. Wednesday morning breakfast help. Serving, picking up orders, set up
and clean up. Also, rides for the experts to the Capitol Building.
3. Wednesday afternoon/evening (one or both) set up, clean up, serving,
possibly picking up food orders, etc. Rides for the experts to and from
the hotel prior to and after the event
4. Thursday morning set up, and transportation for guests to and from
capitol building, pick up food, clean up.
5. Thursday afternoon, transportation to the airport for guests and
transportation/set-up for Noel Runyan's conference at the Texas School
for the Blind.

I just need to know which day, Wed or Thurs, that people can volunteer
and when and for how long.I need them from: 6:30am to 9:30 Wed morning,
3:30- 9:00 evening and 6:30-11am Thurs. Plus if we need them to give
people rides to the airport. Basically, whenever they can help me, I can
have something for them to do.I was also thinking that it would be cool
to have a "prep" party on Monday night - people to help put together the
packets for the hearing. PLEASE consider helping us out next week! And
try to plan on being at the Hearing all day - this will be a major
election integrity event, and could have a lot of effect on whether a
hand-counted paper ballot bill could become law during the next
legislative session! THANKS, everyone! Vickie (and Karen)
