Mark your calendars, VoteRescuers! A very important hearing will be
taking place at the Capitol on Wednesday, June 25th, and VoteRescue and
our Coalition, Texans for REAL Elections, will be playing a major role.
The hearing will begin at 9am and go most of the day, possibly until 6pm,
maybe later. The House Committee on Elections (where we lobbied much of
last year for the Texas Hand Counted Paper Ballot Bill of 2007) will be
holding its Interim Hearing on electronic voting on that date, and
VoteRescue has been invited to bring in speakers who will address the
topic of electronic voting security (!!) and other related topics. With
the help of a very generous doner and supporter of our work, we will be
bringing in some of the foremost experts and best spokespeople on this
topic from around the country. We expect the events of this Hearing to
be extremely interesting, perhaps even historical in their implications.
The list of guests we will be inviting in will be complete soon and we'll
be announcing their names, as well as details on the room for the
Hearing, via a follow-up e-mail. Several of the guests we've been
interviewing on VoteRescue Radio will be among them. The public is
invited to sit in on the Hearing and we encourage all of you who are able
to attend, and stay as long as you can for the best chance to hear "our"
guests. ALSO: our next VoteRescue meeting will be held next Tuesday,
June 17th, at Brave New Books, 1904 Guadalupe, Austin, Texas, from 6:30
til 8:30 pm. We'll be showing the recent HBO documentary, "Recount",
starring Kevin Spacey, Laura Dern, and Denis Leary. This movie is a 2
hour film and we will need to begin it by 6:45pm in order to be finished
before the book store closes. We'll also give more updates about our
upcoming Hearing. Hope to see you all next Tuesday at Brave New Books,
AND at the Hearing at the Capitol on the 25th!: Vickie (and Karen)!
