To all VoteRescuers,
I have already received several poignant comments from members of our
mailing list about the Onion "news" piece. You are all welcome to share
your thoughts about it to the rest of the list by simply replying (or
sending) to voterescue at voterescue.org. For those worried about an
avalanche of messages, we'll seriously consider re-instating a
discussion-oriented mailing list that is separate from an
announcement-only list if it's overwhelming.
One of the comments was from a member who is so fed up with the farce,
they are considering not voting. I'd like to share my reply to that person:
/Dear _________,
//The way it is now, our elections _are_ a farce and a joke and the
Onion did an _incredible_ job in their "news" piece speaking to this.
However, I've come to the conclusion that we all should //still //vote
because only then can we run our own exit polls "with teeth" outside the
fake election polling places and show how voters are really voting! It
is the first "real" step towards our taking back the control of our
elections// - as it should be.
If you have even an ounce of hope left, please consider joining a
Citizen Exit Poll precinct team where you live. If in Texas, let me
know which county and also, and this is important, sign up on the
website _www.projectvotecount.com_ for the Project Vote Count effort
here in Texas. One way or another, you will get the information you
need to help with an exit poll. If you haven't read the article about
Project Vote Count for the 2008 Texas Primaries on March 4, then go to
our website at _www.voterescue.org_ . It is on the home page. And get
your friends to sign up, too. It's just 4 hours of your time on Election
Day.
We promise you, you won't be the same after you participate in one of
these efforts.
Thanks for writing.
Karen/
