[Voterescue] [CORRECTION!!! about Take this Resolution to your County Party Office TODAY!]

Hey, everybody,

*My apologies* for the misleading information I sent out earlier today
about the Resolution. Daniel Melder in Lampasas County wrote back and
clarified what I was supposed to have said, but didn't.

*Bottom Line:* Resolutions CAN be introduced by anyone at the precinct
conventions on Election Night. The point about tomorrow's deadline is
about getting your party's county office to distribute the Resolution to
ALL the precincts for us, just as Daniel surmised below. And all county
party offices may not be offering this "service" which is what you are
really checking about by tomorrow. When you check, be sure to find out
how many copies they need to cover all of the precincts in your county.
For example, the Travis County Democratic Party has told people they
should bring 250 total copies.

Sorry again about the confusion I have caused! This is a great example
of the importance of replying to the mailing list if something that is
sent out seems wacky.

Karen

Karen:

Whoever told you there is some sort of deadline for the submission of
resolutions apparently doesn't have a complete understanding of the
process. Any resolution can be introduced from the floor by any
Democratic primary voter attending his or her precinct convention on the
night of the convention. It is my understanding that the same is true
for resolutions brought by duly elected delegates to the county, state,
and national conventions. With that said, it is also true that having a
resolution passed by each convention level does give it a better chance
of actually being heard at the next level. I do not know the rules for
the Republicans, but I'm pretty sure they're almost identical.

The deadline you were told about, I assume, is likely a production
deadline. The Travis County Democratic Party, unlike most county
parties, collects as many resolutions as it can before the precinct
conventions and assembles them into packets which are then distributed
along with the election supplies for each precinct. It's a nice thing to
do, and it does help streamline the convention process, but it's not a
requirement. It's also not binding on individual precinct convention goers.

So, in the long and short of it, keeping with the deadline you were told
about will help in getting your resolutions sent to every precinct
convention. Failing to do so, however, does not mean they can't be heard
but will require you to depend on having someone willing to bring it to
each and every precinct. I will bring them to my precinct convention,
and I'm sure they'll advance on to the county convention from there.

Thanks,

Daniel Melder
County Chair-Elect
Lampasas County Democratic Party
