*IMPORTANT!
Monday, February 4, 2008 is THE LAST DAY TO REGISTER TO VOTE or TO CHECK
THAT YOU ARE STILL ON THE REGISTRATION ROLLS!
Texas, as have all of the other states because of the Help America Vote
Act (HAVA), has been switching over all of the counties' voter
registration data to a statewide data base and in the process, some
eligible voters are getting "dropped off" the rolls for a variety of
reasons. So, it is important that you check your status no later than
Monday if you plan to vote in the upcoming March 4, 2008 Texas Primaries.
WARNINGS!!
1. You cannot actually register to vote online in Texas! There is a
form you can fill out on line, but you must print it out and deliver it
to your county's voter registration offices or wherever else the form
can be accepted before the deadline.
2. It has been discovered that if you go to the TX Secretary of State
website **_http://www.sos.state.tx.us/ _**to change your voting address
because you have moved out of one county and into another, your
registration in your old county will be canceled and the website will
not automatically re-register you in the new county. You should then go
to the website (if available) of your new county to find out how to
register there from scratch.
However, if you have recently gotten a new drivers license at a DPS
office **because you have moved to a new county, the DPS _is_ able to
transfer your voter registration to the new county. You still should
verify with your new county that everything was done correctly.*
*If you live in Travis County, here is a link to the Travis County
Registrar's office to find out how to register or to check your
registration status:
If you live outside of Travis County, go to the **Texas Secretary of
State's website at _http://www.sos.state.tx.us/_ and it **will get you
to the information about how to register or check your registration status._
_**If you live outside of the state of Texas, here is the website
provided by the National Association of Secretaries of State that
hopefully will get you to the right information about how to register or
check your registration status: _http://www.canivote.org/_*
*
And, finally, here is some information about voting in the March 4, 2008
Texas Primaries found on the Texas Secretary of State's website: *
If you are a registered voter in the state of Texas, you will simply
choose your party and vote in that party's primary. To explain, we do
not register by party in Texas. One becomes "affiliated" with a party
by voting in a party's primary and the affiliation lasts for that
primary year. As an example, if a voter voted in the March 2006 primary
or April 2006 runoff primary, the voter affiliated with that party for
the rest of that year, but on December 31, 2006 the affiliation
expired. The affiliation means that the person may not vote in another
party's primary or participate in another party's convention or sign an
independent candidate's petition for place on the ballot if the
independent candidate's position appears on the primary ballot. Note
that in the general election in November, a voter may vote for whomever
he/she wishes, regardless of how or whether he/she voted in the primary
or runoff primary election, since all candidates are on the same ballot.
*Please pass this information on to others.
Thanks from VoteRescue.*

This Sunday, February 3, 2008, on VoteRescue Radio (2-4 pm CST), we will
have on as our guest during the final segment of the show, Mike Conwell,
who has done considerable research into the problems here in Travis
County and in the state about the purging of eligible voters from the
voter registration rolls. Listen online at www.wtprn.com or visit the
"Show Archives" at a later time.*
