Hi VoteRescuers! Hope to see you at the STOP the TTC (Trans-Texas
Corridor)/Tolls Rally tomorrow (Saturday, April 5th.). The staging area
for the march will be at the parking lots at the corner of Caesar Chavez
& Red River, one block west of I-35. Gathering for the march will begin
at 11:45; the march will go up Congress Avenue, ending in a rally on the
south Capitol steps. March begins at 12:15 pm. Rally goes from 1 til
4pm. VoteRescue and the TTC are each others' Coaltion partners and we
hope to see a big showing of VoteRescuers out tomorrow to support this
effort. ALSO: MANY THANKS to the VoteRescuers who came out Thursday to
the Public Hearing held by the Secretary of State's office for statements
on the possible certification of new Hart software. Because there were
11 of us, even though we each only got 5 minutes, we created 55 minutes
worth of condemning testimony against Hart InterCivic from combined
powerful documents: The newly released, 45 page whistleblower lawsuit
filed by William Singer, former Hart employee, which clearly stated
allegations that Hart lied regularly to election officials to make the
sale and get the funds from the Help America Vote Act (HAVA); that they
either didn't test, poorly tested, or faked testing of their programs;
and many more hair-raising claims. We also read from a lengthy list of
screwups by Hart machines during past elections. Director of the State
Division of Elections Ann McGeehan was there, with a look on her face
that indicated she was hearing of this lawsuit for the first time
from US! One highlight was when Abbe DeLozier asked Ann what would happen
to the videotapes of our comments--would the Voting Systems Examiners
Board get to see them? Would the Secretary of State? Ms McGeehan
declined to answer the question, which Abbe asked several times. Our
wonderful videographer Sue Ann Campbell caught all the action on tape for
VoteRescue! SOOOOOOOO....A big VOTERESCUE THANK YOU to: Hector Del Toro,
Laura Killins, Kathy Cox, Melissa Gonzales, Karen Kreps, Charlotte Brown,
Russell Doyle, Jenny Clark, Sue Ann Campbell, Abbe DeLozier and of
course, Karen Renick and I were both there putting our two cents
in! We should have an exciting April meeting with either a guest
speaker or a movie, so stay tuned for the details. The date: Tuesday,
April 15th. Place: TBD, but probably Brave New Books! Thanks, all!
Hope to see you tomorrow! Vickie (and Karen)
