[Voterescue] Meet with Your Rep This Week!

I just learned today that Congress is on a short break this week because of the Jewish holiday, Rosh Hashana. This means that there's a very good chance that your Representative is home in your district for the week.

This is an excellent opportunity to make an appointment with your Rep to sit down and talk some sense into him/her about the Holt Bill, HR 811 ("Microsoft 811") is bottom line horrible and that what you want him/her to do is sponsor a bill calling for paper ballots hand counted in public view with a "People's Chain of Custody", meaning that the ballots NEVER leave the sight of public observers during the casting and counting.

Keep in mind that Congress is allowed to pass legislation that stipulates voting methods and procedures for federal-level races ONLY. This would mean that the election contests for President, VP, Senators and Representatives would fall under the heading of federal-level races. Kucinich has said that he intends to revise and re-introduce his bill from last session, HR 6200, that called for HCPBs for the presidential race only.

I am hoping that I will succeed in getting a meeting with my Rep., Lamar Smith. If he is your Rep, too, you are welcome to e-mail me back or call me at 496-7408 to let me know if you would like to join me at the meeting. As soon as I hear back from his office, I will post the time and place.

To find out your Rep, go to www.Congress.org and fill in your address information. Call your Rep's District Office (not the office in D.C.) Try to get an appointment ASAP while he/she is home. Put a short announcement out on the VoteRescue mailing list to find other constituents to join you. Many of the messages that Vickie, me and others have sent you about HR 811 can be used for talking points, but if you still have questions. don't hesitate calling either Vickie at 775-3737 or Karen at 496-4807 for help in preparing for your meeting.

Good Luck! See you at the dinner at the downtown Threadgills this Thursday evening at 7 pm if you can make it. If not,,,, don't forget our monthly VoteRescue meeting coming up a week from today. Check the website for location later this week.
