    VoteRescue Meeting

THIS COMING TUESDAY, August 28h, there is a very important FOLLOW-UP meeting 7 - 9:30 pm at Brave New Books at 1904 Guadalupe. (NW corner of MLK & Guadalupe, next to Chase Bank. Go downstairs to the book store. A map can be found on our website at www.voterescue.org.)

Parking near Brave New Books: Check the side streets just "behind" the Chase Bank (i.e., to the west of Guadalupe). There are lots of meter spaces usually available - and they're free starting at either 5:30 or 6:00 p.m.

We will be finalizing the plans for VoteRescuers and members of other groups in the coalition, Texans for REAL Elections, going to Fort Worth on Friday, August 31st for the Texas GOP Straw Poll which takes place the following day, Saturday, September 1st. If you came to the last meeting on August 14th, we strongly encourage you to attend. However, it is not necessary to have attended the last meeting to come to this next one on the 28th.

Also, please come even if you know you will not be able to join us in Ft. Worth so you can learn about what we will be doing to come up with our own independent results of the straw poll as a means of "checking" the official results. So far, the only thing the GOP has announced about the voting process is that delegates will be voting on paper ballots. We still do not know how the paper ballots will be counted (either by hand or with scanners) despite many calls and e-mails to election officials. We should have this nailed down by Tuesday night's meeting.

If you are still looking for a place to stay in Ft. Worth, try this website for lists of hotels and a map of downtown Ft. Worth:

If the cost of staying over in Ft. Worth is keeping you from coming up to help, you can always make a very long day of it and drive up early Saturday morning and return to Austin late that same day.

And, if you already know you are driving and will have extra spaces in your vehicle, please send a separate e-mail to karen at voterescue.org. and we will post the list of available spaces as soon as I hear back.

See you Tuesday evening at Brave New Books at 7 pm.!
