VoteRescuers ~ Thanks to all who came to our meeting last night! It was
fantastic to hear from Gregory Gory of all the great achievements of the
"Vote In Sunshine" group at the Iowa Straw Poll, and we intend to have an
equally productive and fun time in Fort Worth monitoring the Texas Straw
Poll! It was equally great to see so many returning VoteRescuers, and to
meet our newest members---we are so appreciative of you ALL! For those of
you who are planning to volunteer for the Texas Straw Poll event, here is
a little info on hotels near the Convention Center: There is a website
called "Convention Center Hotel Guide" and you can surf for hotels that
way; their phone number is 1-866-656-7127. Here are a few hotels I found
in & around the Convention Center area. You can google them up by name &
address to get more details on each: - Days Inn at 1551 S. University
Drive that has rooms for $62/nite (double) - Microtel Inn & Suites,
Stockyards (8.5 miles from Convention Center) $50-$60/nite (double) - Country
Inn Suites at 2200 Mercado Av., $99/nite (double) - Holiday Inn Express,
2730 Cherry Lane, $106/nite (double)(of course you can go up from
there!!!) There is also the option Gregory suggested for the adventurous
types: "couchsurfers.com". (Don't forget your pepper spray!) We will be
arriving in Ft. Worth on Friday afternoon (Aug. 31st) & would like
everyone to meet up for dinner & a planning session for the Saturday
Straw Poll election, probably around 6pm or so. Details on this and our
next Austin VoteRescue meeting prior to the event will follow soon. THANK
YOU ALL for your help, and please spread the word to others. We will
write up a short "Request for Volunteers" for this event that you can
forward to any friends you know who might want to help us. We will
be executing this event under our umbrella name which is "Texans for Real
Elections". That coalition includes, among others, Project for the New
American Citizen (PNAC); Independent Texans; and the Texas Motorcycle
Rights Association. Thanks again and more to come, Vickie (and Karen!)512/775-3737;
